1935 Doc Pomus, US songwriter. Wrote many early 60's hits with Mort Shuman including, 'Sweets For My Sweet', 'Teenager In Love', 'Save The Last Dance For Me.' He died on February 26th 1991.

1944 Beach Boy Bruce Johnston is born.

1951 Gilson Lavis, drums, Squeeze, (1979 UK No.2 single 'Up The Junction').

1958 Lisa Germano, American singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, 1994 album ‘Geek the Girl.’ Also worked with John Mellencamp, Simple Minds, David Bowie, Neil Finn, Sheryl Crow, Iggy Pop, Jewel and Eels.

1961 Margo Timmins, vocals, Cowboy Junkies, (1989 album 'The Trinity Session').

1962 Michael Ball, UK singer, (1989 UK No.2 single 'Love Changes Everything').

1970 Laurence Colbert, drums, Ride, (1992 UK No.9 single 'Leave Them All Behind').

1964 The Drifters' last Top 10 hit, "Under the Boardwalk" enters the Hot 100. It peaks at #4.

1968 Elvis Presley begins taping his first television special, "Elvis," at NBC studios in Burbank, CA. The show's popularity is seen as the start of his comeback.

1969 The Denver Pop Festival opens at Mile High Stadium. Violence breaks out in the 50,000+ crowd and police move in with clubs and tear gas. The festival's last day (June 29) is the last concert for the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

1970 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "Ohio" is released.

1975 Texas heavy-metal blues trio ZZ Top earn their second gold record for their fourth album, "Fandango" which includes the Top 20 hit, "Tush."

1978 Bonnie Tyler's voice on "It's a Heartache" is compared and sometimes mistaken to be Rod Stewart's. The hubub helps turn the single into a hit.

1980 John Bonham, drummer with Led Zeppelin collapsed on stage during a gig in Nuremberg, West Germany.

1981 Michael Jackson had his first solo UK No.1 with 'One Day In Your Life'. Motorhead scored their only UK No.1 album with 'No Sleep Til Hammersmith'.

1982 Virgin Music Publishing reaches an out-of-court settlement with Police bassist Sting on a 1977 contract.

1987 Whitney Houston became the first women in US history to enter the album chart at No.1 with 'Whitney' she also became the first woman to top the singles chart with four consecutive releases when 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' hit No.1.

1988 Cyndi Lauper finally gets her high school diploma from Richmond High in New York. Meanwhile Debbie Gibson gets hers from Calhoun High on Long Island.

1988 MCA Records buys legendary Motown Records for $61 million.

1989 The Who performs the rock opera, "Tommy" in its entirety for the first time in 17 years at New York's Radio City Music Hall. The show raised money for a children's charity as well as the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

1989 Tom Jones is awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

1991 Paul McCartney's first classical work, the semi-autobiographical Liverpool Oratorio is performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in Liverpool Cathedral.

1993 Lyle Lovett marries actress Julia Roberts. They would divorce in 1995.
