1978 Pete Meaden, the Who's publicist and manager in their High Number days, commits suicide in London by ingesting an overdose of barbituates. Meaden helped the group refine their mod image. He was 35.

1985 Kyu Sakamoto was killed in a plane crash. 1963 US No.1 & UK No.6 single 'Sukiyaki', the first ever Japanese US No.1.

1993 The Red Hot Chili Peppers replaced guitarist Arik Marshall with Jesse Tobias. Tobias was replaced by Dave Navarro three months later.

1994 Woodstock '94 opened in Saugerties, NY. The opening was on the 25th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair.

1997 MTV debuted the Fleetwood Mac reunion concert. The special was taken from two performances at a Warner Brothers soundstage a few months earlier.

1996 The Spice Girls were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Wannabe', Los Del Rio were at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Macarena'.

1998 Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) pled guilty to felony heroin possession and was sentenced to three months in a drug treatment facility.

1999 The Sugarcubes kicked off 15 date UK tour at The Octagen, Sheffield.

2000 Robbie Williams scored his third UK No.1 single with 'Rock DJ'.

2001 Alicia Keys went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Fallin'.

2001 Atomic Kitten went to No.1 on the UK album chart with their debut release 'Right Now'.

2001 So Solid Crew scored their first UK No.1 single with '21 Seconds.'

2003 Lee Ryan from Blue was arrested whilst driving a Porsche around central London and was charged with drink driving. Ryan had spent the night knocking back drinks at Browns night-club in Covent Garden with his cousin and a record company executive. After annoying others in the club with rowdiness, and his cousin's throwing up in the VIP area, bouncers threw Lee out. Lee opted to drive his L60,000 Porsche, Officers pulled the star over just after 4am on Tower Bridge Road and breath tests showed him to be twice over the legal drinking limit.

2006 founding member of Destiny's Child, LeToya was No.1 on the US album chart with her debut solo album 'LeToya.' It was released six years after being dismissed from the group and staying away from the spotlight.

2007 UK singer, songwriter Kate Nash went to No.1 on the UK album chart with her debut album 'Made Of Bricks.'
